I am a hobby trader with a PhD in mechanical engineering and have coded my own expert advisor (EA) that implements the following strategy:
Charts are watched for signals during regular trading hours (except Sundays on market Open, and first Friday NFP). Signals are called based on daily statistics, therefore, all open trades are closed at the end of NY session. If certain criteria are met with my custom strategy, trades are placed. The EA implements dollar-cost averaging. Take-profit and stop-losses are integrated into the code, but they are hidden from the broker and wont show on the order. This is to prevent broker manipulation. Larger DCA lots close-half and set breakeven at specific points to mitigate risk. For some of the pairs, lot size depends on account balance, others are simply fixed lot sizes.
Pairs that are currently traded include:
XAUUSD
GBPJPY
EURUSD
but the EA may be modified as time goes on to trade additional pairs.
Trade duration: Longest possible duration is 10hr.
Drawdown: Currently historic maximal drawdown is 20%.
Trading frequency: Trading usually occurs during London session and terminates at the end of the New York session.
Risk: This is an ambitious strategy ran by my custom EA. The EA requires minimal intervention and shut-off conditions have been integrated into the code to protect balances.
